My Jungle Gym for today...
In May, I posted a pretty daring yet honest writing concerning my present and hopeful future state of employment in education and my work in design thinking. I titled the post, I'm Seeking a New Playground Due to the nature of the beast, I pretty much missed the hiring cycle here in the ATL. Yet, I am still seeking an organization to land in and be part of its team. As a throw back to MVPS, I am a collaborator, a solution seeker, and an ethical-decision maker.
I let my work and reputation speak for itself. As my father has always reminded me, your name and reputation are priceless and try not to fly to close to the sun as your wings will surely melt. Well, maybe I flew to close to the sun, yet I am all the more better for it and the learning during the flights have been invaluable .
Jim Tiffin led me to Seth Goden's work called The Icarus Deception. One of the timely lessons from this book is the warning Icarus's father also gave (yet is all too often over looked by the powerful sun melts your wings warning),
"Icarus was also warned not to fly too low, because sea water would ruin the lift in his wings. Flying too low is even more dangerous than flying too high, because it feels deceptively safe." SG
I guess between these two fathers, the best advice is to fly in the middle. Well, let's see if flying all around for awhile keeps my wings intack. Sheryl Sandberg has a pretty spot on quote for what I am trying to do at the moment until that elusive organization is ready for a gal like me to shake things up and build together...
“Careers are a jungle gym, not a ladder.”
So during my climbing on this jungle gym, I am working with some pretty cool folks here in Atlanta, San Diego, San Francisco, South Carolina, Philly, NJ, and a few others are in the hopper on school-related projects, health design, community action, edtech, and I continue to grow, design, and create my DEEP design thinking methodology. Also, I have joined a stellar team of design educators in a startup called June Labs headed by Meg Omainsky & Daniel Scibienski where we are connecting and building partnerships with educators and tech companies to collaborate together through design to create & test edtech tools and practices.
If you are interested in working on a project or two, ping me and let's talk. It seems for the time being, I am hanging out here in the ATL seeking a playground yet willing and eager to share my toys and dig in the sand.
